Harmony double page spread

Monday, 2 January 2012

Mock ups.

Practice shots

Location ideas.

* For the front cover image I want the image to be bold yet simple of the model in front of a white backdrop this allows the magazine to follow excisting conventions most current music magazines, use a block coloured backdrop this allows the cover model to be seen clearly as they are the main focus. Occasionallys this convention is broken if the setting is of importance or relevance to the sell lines.

*For my double page spread image, I will use nautural and urban settings, to reflect where the artist is from, by using these settings the target audience are able to relate to the artist featured and gives the audience a feeling of being let into the 'artists world' as they are shown in locations the artist comes from.

Make-up & Hair Ideas

For the front cover image, my model's make-up will be styled in a classic pin up girl style, it will be glamourous and bold inspired by marilyn monroe, to give the model a modern twist their hair will be styled in an on trend topkont.

For the second look my model will wear bold daring pink statement lipstick, her hair will be styled in nautral loose waves, that look effortless.

Costume Ideas

* my front cover image I plan for my model to wear a sheer pink blouse, with distressed denim shorts, the blouse reflects the current trend and the shorts a icon of rebellion and rocker chic.

*For the contents page and double page spread the model will be wearing a tea party dress, its femnine, on trend and bold with a retro tone from the 1940's its glamourous just like the pin-up girls from the era, the model will wear biker boots to add a modern twist/edge.

Image analysis: Rhianna

This image of Rhianna is an extreme close-up, the image has been manipulated so that there is a pink tint. Rhianna’s hair is bright red, red represents love, passion, anger, it is unconventional and reflects a rebellious aspect to her personality. Her make-up is compiled of bronze and nude shades, making her skin look glowing. Her eye make-up is dark and heavy drawing attention to her eyes. She is holding a rose between her teeth, her hand is partially covering her mouth drawing attention to the fact she is wearing two gold rings. From what you can see within the image she is wearing a fur coat. Her clothing and jewellery reflect a glamorous image. The use of the the prop of the rose represents love and passion emphasising the romantic tone of her album loud, which this image has been used inside of the cover

Image analysis: Lana del rey

In this image of Lana Del Rey she is in an outside neutral setting, she is standing against a barn yard door, this contrasts with her her hair makeup and clothing. She is wearing a vintage print t-shirt reading ‘Hollywood’ this relates to her stage name is a combination of the late old Hollywood actress Lana Turner and the Ford Del Rey. Her hair and makeup mirrors that off the 1930’s Hollywood fashion, she is wearing a mixture of classic gold jewellery, the Chanel earrings, she is making eye-contact with the camera and her facial expression is serious.

Image Analysis: Yasmin

In this image of Yasmin, the background is a natural setting, of what looks like a city, however the background is not in focus enough to make it out properly this has been done so the main focus is Yasmin. Her hair is styled in big natural waves, her eye-makeup is dark and heavy, drawing attention to her eyes instantly it is also similar to that of Amy Winehouse. We cannot see her outfit however we can see her chunky retro gold watch and necklace. She isn’t looking directly into the camera however she isn’t smiling her face looks thoughtful and distant.

Image analysis: Adele

In this Image of Adele she is against and netural beige background, it is a medium shot. She is wearing a classic sophisticated black dress, her hair is styled in a loose care-free bouffant and ponytail her hair and makeup reflect classic 60’s eye-makeup. Her body language contrasts with her style is she posed with her arms crossed with a cigarette in her mouth, this pose is typically masculine and therefore makes her look powerful the cigarette is a symbol of rebellion. This image of Adele reflects the edginess and gritty down-to-earth lyrics. Adele takes up most of the frame as she is the focus the lighting is dim the photo has been edited so the colour is less vibrant to add a vintage effect.

Image Analysis: Jessie J

In order to gain inspiration for my own Artist featuring in my music magazine I have analysed female artists who are part of the pop genre and their image, i.e the style of their hair make up clothes etc.

In this image of Jessie J she is against a grey gradient background making her the main focus in the image. She is wearing a black printed t-shirt with ‘Deep Purple’ a band formed in 1967 they are a English heavy metal band, this suggests Jessie’s own music tastes, it also reflects her own music when ‘Deep Purple’ first formed they were pioneers of the heavy metal genre, similarly Jessie J is a pioneer in music as a U.K female artist.  Her outfit has a retro rock star twist as she is wearing high-waisted skinny jeans and a leather jacket, reflecting the 70’s fashion. Her outfit has a modern twist as she is wearing Disney Minnie’s mouse ears, reflecting her childish fun side of her personality. She is also wearing hoop earrings, a urban fashion reflecting her background as she grew up in Redbridge, London. Her make-up is loud and pink, reflecting her feminity and loud bubbly personality. Her hair is styled in her trademark look of a straight Jet black bob, making instantly recognisable as Jessie J. She is smiling/laughing at the camera, showing she likes to have fun, her hands are placed on her waist drawing attention to her ‘Deep Purple’ t-shirt. The lighting is bright and focused on Jessie J as she is the main object in the frame, she has been positioned so she is central and takes up all the frame.

We love pop double page analysis

In this double page spread of we love pop it features X factor’s 2010 runner up Cher Llyod who has gone onto to begin her own music career. Cher Llyod has been used to feature in a interview with we love pop as she will be instantly identifiable with readers, we love pop is aimed at 13-15 year olds the target audience have a clear interest in music and are likely to follow The hit television show The X Factor. Moreover Cher Llyod is of a similar age group to the readers she is a couple of years older, acting as a older sister/role model for the readers to look up to. Cher is wearing a bright navy blue top, with stripey black and white skinny jeans, and high black wedges, her style is un-conventional and reflects her own outside out of the box personality, by being comfortable in herself and daring to wear statement pieces of clothing that others wouldn’t she encourages the audience to be comfortable in their image and be themselves, this sends a positive message to young girls who are bombarded by images of how they should look by the media. In the image she has a posing in a fun natural pose, it looks as though this image has been snapped mid-action of cher playing with the prop camera, by using this playful image, it allows the audience to see Cher as approachable, this is furthermore reflected in the interview where Cher Llyod reveals a down-to-earth side of her personality.
The main headline of the article “I was the girl parents blamed for their kids turning out wrong” instantly lures the audience into the feature as it relates to themselves, the target audience are at an age where they have just become teenagers and it is common to have disagreements with their parents on all kinds of things including their friends. Below the pull line reads “Forget everything you know about Cher Llyod...and read this interview...” this attracts in the readers as the readers already have expectations of Cher Llyod because of some of the negative press she received whilst on the X factor, furthermore it addresses their reaction to the main headline as they may make assumptions about Cher Llyod. This interview appeals to the target audience as they feel let into Cher’s life and her past, as she opens up and reveals an unexpected side to her, unlike the rebellious teenager the media portrays her as. Cher acts as an inspiration to the readers as she talks about her own hardships allowing the target audience relate to her.
Furthermore the colour scheme used are black white and hot pink, the hot pink is feminine and fun.

NME double page analysis

In this Double page spread featuring Florence and the machine the language used throughout the article is informal so to create a relaxed relationship between NME and the reader, they are talking to the reader as a friend with inside music knowledge, this informality allows the reader to feel like they are being let into the lives of the artists who feature throughout the pages of NME. Although the language is used is informal it still uses good grammar and a wide vocabulary as it informing the reader.
The double page spread features Florence Welch from the hit band Florence and the machine. The headline is “USA got the love”, ‘USA’ is in a larger bolder font which occupies most of the double page spread this is as the article is about Florence’s success in America, as a British artist this is a great achievement. ‘Got the love’ is a pun reference to Florence and the machine’s number one song ‘You have got the love’ that fans will be able to recognise.
The main image of Florence relates to the main sell line as she is sitting on the American flag made instantly identifiable to the audience by the iconic red and white stripes. Florence is looking directly into the camera making eye contact with the audience and pouting. She is wearing black leather shorts a matching top and sky scraper heels, her make-up ties in with her look as she has dark grey smokey eyes, her hair is styled in loose care free curls and is her signature flame red colour reflecting a streak of rebellion. This look will appeal to the target audience as NME mainly consists of a male readership and Florence Welch is styled as the ultimate rock chick, the fantasy girl for male readers. As for the minority of female readers she is someone they look up to and aspire to be like as she has reached success with her music, the female readers may be inspired by her unique rebellious style and may be encouraged to have the same care free attitude as Florence Welch.
The pull quote used to lure the audience into reading the article states ‘She’s 2009 biggest success story, with America at her feet. So why is Florence Welch lying on the floor attacking herself’ this sell-line allows the reader to see an unexpected yet more realistic side of Florence Welch. Although she is portrayed as glamorous and successful she the pull line shows that like everyone is she has her own insecurities. The readers will be able to relate to this as human beings we all have parts of her self-esteem that could be improved on.
The colour scheme of red, white, black and blue relates to the main heading of the article as it is the patriotic colours of the American flag.
